What is the InTown Macon Neighborhood Association?

"InTown", as we call it, is the neighborhood association for the InTown residential historic district. Organized in 1974, the primary concern of InTown is protecting and improving the quality of life for residents in the InTown district which stretches from Coleman Avenue at Mercer University to Walnut Street, Madison and Monroe Streets to New Street. It also includes Bealls Hill from Shamrock to Telfair Streets and from the Central of Georgia Railroad to Oglethorpe Street.

Our members come from many different social, racial and economic backgrounds. All members are invited to make their own special contributions for the betterment of the neighborhood. InTown Macon Neighborhood Association works to help newcomers choose the InTown Historic District as a place to live and continues to support existing residents in neighborhood issues.

Living in the InTown neighborhood offers many unique benefits. We have stately old homes whose outstanding architectural features simply cannot be found in a modern suburb. Residents also enjoy the convenience of being close to downtown shopping, restaurants, award-winning private and public schools, libraries and recreational facilities. Mercer University, an InTown presence since 1872, offers a wide variety of cultural and educational opportunities convenient to InTown residents. Central Georgia's most prominent hospital, the Medical Center, is also adjacent to the neighborhood.

Social events during the year are geared toward members of all ages and give neighbors many opportunities to get acquainted. Porch parties, Easter egg hunts and holiday parties are some of the most popular events.

Our Historic District Development Committee monitors community issues that could affect our neighborhood and keep residents informed of these issues. Communication with local leaders and City Hall give InTown a voice in local affairs.

Each area of InTown has a zone captain who communicates with nearby residents to keep members current on issues and events of interest. Our Board of Directors meets monthly and there is an annual membership meeting for election of officers.

We hope that you will become a member of InTown, and that you will take an active role in our organization. The most significant way to improve the quality of life for InTown residents is for neighbors to know and help each other. In the end, that is what InTown Macon Neighborhood Association is all about.

InTown Macon Neighborhood Association is a non-profit 501c3 organization. Dues and contributions are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. If you are a new resident in InTown, your first year's dues are waived. Dues are payable in January of each year. All dues received in the fourth quarter of the year will be applied to next year's membership.
